The MIPIM Conference, established in 1990, gathers international property players from the office, residential, retail, healthcare, sport, logistics, and industrial sectors for four days of networking, learning, and transaction. In 2017, MIPIM drew more than 24,000 attendees from 100 countries and more than 5,000 investors. A wide array of American real estate organizations, including NAR, state associations like the Missouri Association of REALTORS®, and local associations like the Birmingham Association of REALTORS®, have attended the conference for the past several years. NC REALTORS® was proud to send North Carolina’s first delegation to the MIPIM Conference in 2018.
“We had a representative of a major French company stop by our Missouri booth. He couldn’t believe he saw ‘Missouri’ as he was walking thru the USA Pavilion. His company purchased a major US company we have all known our entire life. In doing so, they inherited properties and employees all across the US. In Missouri, they have property that they want to get rid of but they ‘keep the lights on’ and pay security to monitor. They have a large number of employees at a new facility near Kansas City. They asked for our help is selling their property and once finalized they would move 700 employees from another US state (Northeast). Our Governor took this one and ran with it and is working on incentives that he has at his disposal (hence the sensitivity right now). Pretty amazing to get hundreds of jobs as a result of this and the impact on real estate is huge.”
“We had an architect come to our booth, again excited to see us there. He represents owners of a hotel complex on the Mississippi River in St Louis next to the Baseball stadium. His client thought there may be a higher and better use for their property. I referred that project to the St Louis Commercial Realtors. St Louis Realtors was a sponsor of our booth space with $2,500 so that was their reward.”

“[Through our connections at MIPIM,] we stopped the largest inter-modal shipping yard from leaving Illinois; the loss would have been in the billions. We promoted… a new construction luxury condo project in Chicago. The exposure led a foreign investor to assume the financing… as a result, the building is now virtually sold out. The intangibles are very significant in that we have brought to MIPIM the Vice-Mayor of Chicago and the Executive Director of the state’s private EDC (Economic Development Committee) and have new relationships with each and their involvement [in developing] Chicago and Illinois.”
